Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ forward Yegor Sokolov has been handed a one-game ban for an illegal hit delivered to Halifax Mooseheads’ defenceman Jack Ryczek on New Year’s Eve.

Sokolov incurred a five-minute major and a game-misconduct after crushing the Chicago Blackhawks prospect in a 4-1 loss to the Mooseheads.

Ryczek missed the remainder of the third period after suffering an apparent injury as a result of the high hit. The Mooseheads newcomer played on Tuesday against the Moncton Wildcats.

Sokolov has 27 penalty minutes in 36 games played for Cape Breton so far this season.
