Abeltshauser named to German preliminary roster

Former Halifax Mooseheads defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser has been named to Germany’s preliminary roster for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Abeltshauser joins ten other German defenseman vying for a spot on the Olympic squad.

The former San Jose Sharks sixth-round pick has 14 points in 38 games played for EHC München of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Abeltshauser appeared in 219 games with the Mooseheads through 2009-2013. The six-foot-five rearguard amassed 150 points and 127 penalty minutes in his time in Halifax. Abeltshauser won the Memorial Cup with the Mooseheads in the spring of 2013.

The Germans open up their Olympic campagin on February 15 when they clash with the Finns in group play at the Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, South Korea.
