Gatineau Olympiques netminder Tristan Bérubé became the eighth goaltender in QMJHL history to score a goal on Wednesday evening.
The Olympiques sophomore fired a puck the length of the ice scoring on an empty net to secure a 7-5 victory over the Sherbrooke Phœnix at the Robert Guertin Centre.
Three-of-the-eight goaltenders to score in the QMJHL have done so wearing the black and silver. Most recently, Mathieu Bellemare was credited with an own goal in a game against the Rimouski Océanic last season. François Brassard became the first Olympiques goalie to score in a game against the Saint John Sea Dogs in February, 2015. Brassard scored earlier in the season while playing with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles becoming the only goaltender in league history to score two goals in a career.
Val-d’Or Foreurs goaltender Etienne Montpetit scored a shorthanded goal last January in a win against the Québec Remparts at the Air Creebec Centre.
Former P.E.I Rocket netminder Antoine Lafleur was the first QMJHL goaltender to earn credit for a goal. Former Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Peter Delmas scored a goal while playing for the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Maxim Gougeon became the first goaltender to score while playing on a Québec-based team when he scored a goal while playing for the Océanic.
